Dr. Simms character sketch/play set up(From my Drama class)

I found this laying around in my files so I decided to post it here. I like it and it gave me a nice set up for the Dr. Simms stories.

Dr. Ross Simms is a struggling young psychologist who lives with his unusually creative wife Coco. The Doctor and his wife use their basement to run their usually successful small businesses. Coco is a creative fashion designer who works on commission from people in the generally wealthy surrounding neighborhoods and boutiques and overall specializes in couture fashion.  The Doctor also finds many of his patients come to him from the surrounding neighborhoods as well as people with court mandated therapy. The doctor is generally very cynical, weary, pessimistic and unimpressed by society and the monotony of everyday life. Though his wife is usually very cheerful, patient, optimistic, choses to make everyday an adventure and overall tries to motivate her husband to be less cynical. Their marriage seems broken and strange to most people since they do not act like they are married or in a relationship.  They are both content just being together even if it isn’t in a way that is considered normal for a couple. They share the same sense of humor and act to balance each other out.

Though the doctor never quite has a shortage of patients, he always lacks money. The Doctor and Coco combined make enough money a year to be very comfortable but the Doctor seems to always lose it much to Coco’s dismay. Coco eventually discovers that the doctor is consistently sued by various patients due to his unorthodox and often misunderstood ways of dealing with his patients and their problems. After being threatened once again with foreclosure Coco gives the Doctor an ultimatum, get the money to fix his own problems or fail and let her fix everything once again as a parting gift before she files for divorce. So now the Doctor has to find out how he is going to fix it, does he have what it takes to be an adult and problem solve for himself? How can he come up with enough money to avoid foreclosure? Can he find a way to keep all of the money once he does have it since he doesn’t have the best history of money management. Should he just fail and let Coco file for divorce since someone else could probably treat her better and make her happy?
